Kaunas Castle

Overview
Kaunas Castle is the oldest brick castle in Lithuania, built back in the 14th century to fight back against the Crusaders. A settlement was built around this gothic castle only later to grow into the present-time Kaunas City. The castle was first mentioned in the written sources in 1361. Presently, a branch of Kaunas City Museum is established in the castle and its territory often houses cultural events.
